On Thursday, September 11, 2025, our small town of Rowley, Massachusetts connected to other small towns and big cities across the United States as citizens remembered their own who perished on September 11, 2001. A memorial garden at Cross and Pleasant Streets was the gathering point in September 11, 2025 for the ceremony, attended faithfully by Rowley Fire and Police department members, residents, and Ipswich-Rowley Rotarians.
The Rowley 9/11 memorial is dedicated to town residents Jim and Mary Trentini and Laurie Neira, who were all killed when their airplane, American Airlines Flight 11 barreled into the World Trade Center. This hijacked flight departed from Boston, Massachusetts, and hit the North Tower at 8:46 a.m.
The Ipswich-Rowley Rotary maintains the 9/11 memorial each spring and fall with flowers and landscaping donated by Bill Freitag of Country Gardens. Bob Snow, Rowley Board of Selectman and dedicated Rotarian, has kept the memorial in beautiful shape each year. Unable to dig into the dirt this year due to a medical absence, he faithfully appeared at the memorial ceremony to remember his friends.
Other Ipswich-Rowley Rotarians volunteering at the memorial garden this year were Co-President Doug Shealy, Diane and John Herth, Jim Tedford, and Ann and John Witzig.
